Boxing Co-ordination Training & Drills

C.CADDY boxing drills develop hand-eye co-ordination, reaction time, footwork and body control through engaging activities for individual training, partner sessions and team warm-ups.

Why Co-ordination Matters in Boxing

In boxing, the ability to see, react and move efficiently can make a difference in the ring. Co-ordination training helps develop the physical foundations needed to connect movement with timing and decision-making.

Hand-Eye Co-ordination

Boxers constantly process visual information while controlling their hands. Hand-eye co-ordination drills challenge athletes to track moving objects, react to visual cues and improve the timing of their movements.

Reaction Time and Speed

Responding to an opponent's movement requires quick recognition and an appropriate response. Reaction training introduces unpredictable cues that encourage boxers to react quickly rather than rely on rehearsed movements alone.

Footwork, Balance and Body Control

Maintaining balance while moving, changing direction and delivering punches is essential to effective boxing technique. Footwork and movement-based drills challenge athletes to stay controlled while moving between positions.

Timing and Rhythm

Boxing requires athletes to coordinate their upper and lower body while maintaining rhythm. Ball-handling and partner drills provide opportunities to practise timing, controlled movement and awareness of another person's actions.

Focus and Decision-Making

Boxers must continually assess their surroundings and respond under pressure. Call-and-react drills challenge athletes to listen, observe and make quick movement decisions while staying engaged in the task.

BOXING CO-ORDINATION

1. Partner Drop Catch

Focus: Reaction time, hand-eye co-ordination and concentration.

Stand facing a partner, with one person holding a C.CADDY ball at shoulder height. The partner holds their hands ready to catch. Without warning, the first person drops the ball, and the second reacts to catch it before it hits the ground.

Alternate roles and vary the timing of each drop to keep the receiver guessing.

Boxing benefit: Encourages quick visual processing and reactive hand movements.

2. Call & React Diamond Cone Catch

Focus: Reaction speed, movement, agility and decision-making.

Set up four training markers in a diamond shape, with a ball at the centre or held by a partner. Call out a marker, colour or direction and have the boxer move quickly to the correct position before catching or retrieving the ball.

Progress the drill by introducing faster calls, changing the sequence or requiring a specific movement pattern.

Boxing benefit: Challenges athletes to process a cue, change direction and coordinate their movement under time pressure.

3. Marker Fast Feet Passing

Focus: Footwork, timing and hand-eye co-ordination.

Arrange flat training markers in a line or small grid. The boxer moves quickly between the markers while passing a C.CADDY ball to a partner. Maintain light, controlled footwork and accurate passes throughout the sequence.

Increase the challenge by changing the passing distance or calling out which marker the boxer must move towards next.

Boxing benefit: Combines lower-body movement with upper-body control, helping athletes practise coordination while moving.
